Wide Range of U.S. Daily and Weekly Newspapers Adopt Screen CTP in 2008

ROLLING MEADOWS Ill. — Screen (USA) announced that the year 2008 saw a significant number of installations of its PlateRite News 2000 series thermal computer-to-plate (CTP) recorders at newspaper printing operations in the United States. The PlateRite News 2000 is specifically designed for the newspaper market.

Bear River Publishing in Preston Ida. completely automated its plate-making lines installing a second PlateRite News 2000S with an autoloader. The newest platesetter replaced a manual-loading basysPrint UV-Setter that had shared plate-making duties with another fully automated PlateRite News 2000S since May 2006. Prepress operators can RIP and send job files to the two PlateRite platesetters at the same time and the plates are imaged automatically without operator intervention. A division of Pioneer Newspapers Inc. Bear River Publishing prints the daily Idaho State Journal Logan (Utah) Herald Journal and Rexburg (Idaho) Standard Journal newspapers. Additionally it prints weeklies and their associated products in the Pioneer family.

The Visalia Times-Delta in Visalia Calif. devised a highly efficient prepress workflow. The Times-Delta installed two separate production lines built around PlateRite News 2000S platesetters. Founded in 1859 the Times-Delta publishes approximately 20 000 copies Monday through Friday and 25 500 copies on Saturday. Another six-day newspaper the Tulare Advance-Register serves readers in the nearby community of Tulare with a daily circulation of approximately 6 000 copies and Saturday circulation of 7.000 copies. The PlateRite News 2000S outputs 84 plates per hour. The Times-Delta reported a noticeable improvement in processing speed and print quality by eliminating film from prepress production.

The Paducah Sun in Paducah Ky. installed two PlateRite News 2000S units. Established in 1896 by William F. Paxton the Paducah Sun is the flagship of the family-run Paxton Media Group with a daily circulation over 25 000 daily and over 26 000 Sunday.

After a comprehensive search Blytheville Courier News in Blytheville Ark. is now enjoying the advantages of a trouble-free CTP workflow. The Courier News installed the PlateRite News 2000LE to reduce operating costs improve productivity and deliver a better product to its customers. The PlateRite News 2000LE produces 26 plates per hour when using 35 x 23.2-inch plates. Founded in 1898 the Courier News is published Monday through Friday and Sunday. It has a daily circulation of approximately 5 000. The company also owns and prints a weekly newspaper in Arkansas and two weeklies in Missouri.

The Cynthiana Democrat a weekly community newspaper in Cynthiana Ky. opted for the PlateRite News 2000LE. The Cynthiana Democrat prints a weekly shopper monthly real estate guides and commercial web products for area newspapers and specialty publications.

Greater Northwest Publishing Inc. a central newspaper printing plant and job shop in Minot N.D. replaced an existing imagesetter with the PlateRite News 2000LE.

Champion Printing in Center Texas converted from film-based plate production to CTP with the PlateRite News 2000LE.

The Citizen Tribune in Morristown Tenn. added the PlateRite News 2000S and Screen s Trueflow Rite News workflow management system. The Citizen Tribune is a seven-day newspaper serving eastern Tennessee.

The Cambridge Star a twice-weekly source of regional news in and around Cambridge. Minn. adopted the PlateRite News 2000S and Trueflow Rite News workflow.

The Delphos Daily Herald in Delphos Ohio also installed a PlateRite News 2000S as did the Bogalusa Daily News a member of Wick Communications Inc. located in Bogalusa La.
