SP Fiber Technologies (SPFT) received initial board approval to move forward with its partnership agreement with Green Power Solutions (GPS) to implement its “Green Energy Cogeneration” project at its Dublin Georgia Newsprint and Packaging Mill. “This project is a victory for everyone ” says Edward Bortz Vice President of Operations for SPFT. “It will create jobs boost the local economy utilize our renewable resources sustain the environment and ensure the Dublin Mill s future as a thriving production facility. The rigorous due diligence process completed over the last few months demonstrates that this opportunity represents significant value creation for the entire community.”
This project represents the successful effort of many individuals and companies and symbolizes a good example of what is possible when local and state governments along with business work together on a project that serves the interests of their constituents. SPFT and GPS executives have received and are grateful for the tremendous support provided by the Governor Nathan Deal and his office State Senator Ross Tolleson State Representative Matt Hatchett the Georgia Public Service Commission Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority. All agree that to date this project will be the largest renewable energy facility developed in the state of Georgia.
Glen Hill General Manager of the Dublin Mill says “By better leveraging our assets we will improve the viability and longevity of the Dublin Facility while reducing costs and improving our environmental performance.”
Utilizing current assets of the Dublin Mill and leveraging new assets provided in partnership with Green Power Solutions this project will create over 56 megawatts of renewable energy potential to the Georgia electrical grid. In addition the project will encompass a total investment of over $95 million dollars and create 35 new industrial positions and up to 200 new forestry jobs in the area.
