The Alberta Newsprint Company (ANC) has begun diversifying into other areas outside of newsprint in the face of growing economic pressures.
ANC general manger Mike Putzke said environmental initiatives such as the Caribou Range Plan were only part of the problem with the rise of digital media being another major factor. These factors have caused a decline in employment for this industry.
“Newspaper sales are down and advertisers are moving to digital ” Putzke said. “That’s a big challenge for us.”
